We have received the first nomination in the Group or Project of the Year category for the 2015 Love Barrow Awards –
the Barrow Sports Council Equity Programme.
Who are they? What do they do?
“The Equity Programme is a small section of Barrow Sports Council and puts on activities and events that disabled children wouldn’t normally be able to access. During term time they charge a minimum fee to take part in activities such as horse riding, trampoline sessions and swimming but during the holidays nearly everything is free.
The staff in the office organise everything and liaise with a group of parents to ensure all activities are suitable”
The nominator heaps praise on the team and the volunteers – “There are also dedicated young volunteers who attend to make sure there are enough staff to children ratio – The organiser visits the activities quite often,she is very approachable and listens to our concerns and takes them inboard. “
A great scheme making sure that sport is open to all in the borough – “I don’t know what we would do without Equity”
