Another nomination in the Group or Project of the Year category – SAFA, which stands for Self-harm Awareness for the Furness Area.
The group was founded in 2006 by Cindy Daltioni as a result of her past, personal experiences and a realisation that there was a need for a self-harm support organisation in the Furness area.

Self-harm is any behaviour that results in physical or emotional harm to one’s self. It covers a broad range of behaviours including:
Self neglect – the individual neglects to attend to their essential self-care tasks such as food, hygiene, shelter, medical care, etc.
Risky behaviour – examples include: unprotected sex, dangerous driving, remaining in a violent realtionship.
Alcohol and substance abuse – including prescription medication
Eating disorders – anorexia, bulimia, binging
Self-injury – examples include: cutting, burning and picking: but the list is extensive.
Self harm is such a taboo subject still and one that many fail to understand. The team at SAFE are specialised in self harm, they provide such a vital service in a non judgemental, kind, caring , friendly setting. They provide invaluable help to those that are self-harming, but also to the families of those affected and raising awareness of self-harm benefits everyone.
The team provide, training, counselling, free information, workshops , group work. They constantly raise awareness about self harm.

I can honestly say theres nobody like the team at SAFA , they are the most amazing, kind, caring people I have ever met, They deserve this award so, so, so much, they changed my life completely, I could never thank them enough, I have everything crossed for them they truly deserve this there is nobody else like them.
