Sports volunteer nomination – Barrow parkrun’s Stuart Wallace

Sparkrun logotuart Wallace is the latest nominee in the Sports Volunteer catgoery for the 2015 Love Barrow Awards.

Stuart is the parkrun director for the Barrow parkrun and works tirelessly each week to provide people of Barrow with a parkrun. He travels all over the country to attend parkrun meetings and does much work behind the scenes , he is also a founding member of the Parkside Panthers running group.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Stuart recently formed the Duddon Dragons running group in Askam, where previously there was no group in that area.

“Stu is a very humble person and would never view himself as somebody who does so much to help others, he is a font of knowledge to those needing advice and assistance. The amount of time he spends helping others is immense.”

“Stu has also been on a huge personal mission this year, to raise £1,000 for a local family’s charity on top of his community work he set himself challenges, and has worked incredibly hard, just recently knocking 40 mins off his marathon time.”

Stuart is a huge inspiration to others and is the first to admit that he used to be an overweight smoker less than 10 years ago, he’s a huge inspiration to all who know him. Having joined the parkrun fun myself in April this year to get fit, I can personally vouch for the encouraging nature of Stu and the work he does voluntarily for the running community in Barrow.

Well done Stuart on your nomination.
