Teacher of the year nomination – Linda Hawden

Another teacher nomination to tell you about, Linda Hawden has been nominated for the Teacher of the Year category at the 2015 Love Barrow Awards.

Linda Hawden has a background  in social care and used her experiences to be part of the team that introduced Barrow to Sure Start. Linda worked hard to encourage parents to be able to empower themselves in working in their communities and developing their neighbourhoods. Linda has been instrumental in many projects introduced into the area,many of which are still viable and continue to encourage and support families.

“Linda has continued helping people by becoming a tutor, offering her guidance, help and knowledge in the classroom. The support Linda offers goes above and beyond the guidelines. Linda will arrange extra tuition and catch up sessions in her own time and also offers to help go through your portfolios to ensure your work is at an acceptable level. If anyone is struggling Linda will simplify and introduce work sheets to help pupils gain understanding and be able to ensure they understand everything, again all in her own time, in and out of the classroom.”

Linda had a serious fall earlier this year – breaking her neck – but she continues to be upbeat and support all those who know her.

Even through adversity, “she finds positives in her daily life making some of us ashamed with our petty moaning.”
