SAFA have made it to the finals for the continuing service and support they provide to people with Mental Health Issues.
The team at SAFA is committed to making a positive difference to the lives of individuals who self-harm. In a world where poor mental health is on the increase, the team continues to give 100% by meeting the person where they are, then walks along side them on their journey towards rediscovery of where they want to be. They work incredibly hard to eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with self harm, a subject that sadly still remains taboo.
They work with all ages of people from age 8+, from all walks of life regardless of gender, religion, ability-disability, background, social class, job, education etc.
Th ehead office and team is based in Barrow but they offer a countywide Cumbrian service.
They have worked with people who have been able to find the incredible courage to take that first step and make a change in their lives benefit.
SAFAs stance on self harm is that it is not about attention seeking, or manipulative, many people self harm for an awful long time before anybody realises.
This year is SAFA’s 10th Anniversary since its inception they have helped over 1100 individuals to explore, discover and clarify ways of living more satisfyingly and resourcefully.
Some of people they have helped have said “They are all just amazing , they are incredibly patient, kind, they listen to what you have to say , while you are there you feel safe and protected, you are heard sometimes for the first time in your life”
